As you can see, I’m adjusting well to it still being FREEZING in Greece.
My first day here we drove to a city called Molivos. This area saw hundreds to thousands of refugees enter EACH DAY when the refugee crisis was at its peak in 2015/2016.

This choppy water would welcome people that had spent and sacrificed every cent to make it to Europe. Frequently this would include being extorted by a smuggler, even paying tooth and nail down to your life jacket that was really just a foam insert that wouldn’t protect you
These life jackets represent maybe 1/8th of the refugees that have flooded onto the island of Lesvos.
Some died 20 meters from shore because the water was so deceptively clear that they mistakenly believed they could stand in it. Some died further from shore as their “boats” were slashed by those that didn’t believe the island/ EU could hold more refugees.
Some made it to the camps here and are now beginning a life in Greece or another European country.
Some are still in the camps here, years later, as they wait for asylum to be granted.
